I was tasked to create an animated e-card for either Independence Day or Thanksgiving. Once I was done shaking my head at these being the holidays chosen, I decided to create a dark satirical card with a skeletal Uncle Sam with fireworks bursting in the background, potentially holding a sparkler while wishing everyone a happy holiday and reminding them that it is more than just a day for fun and fireworks.
I am still fleshing out the dialog for this animation and the other assets but I was pleased with the painted portion of the piece. Uncle Sam is iconic and posing him as skeletal is not ground breaking by any stretch, however, rendering him in a painted still along with the rest of the production seemed like an exciting expressive opportunity.
This piece was a digital painting created in Photoshop from digital sketch lines of the overall bust of Uncle Sam.
